Grade 5
Moving forward, Backward never
Life is about moving forward. It is like being on a long trip where God has
given us a choice as to which way to go. If we keep moving forward and making
the choices in life that are pleasing to God, then we will be happy and prosperous
all the time. We have to be constantly moving forward, growing and doing all
we can to make sure that we are living a life that reflects Christ's nature to
attract others to Him. We cannot do this if we start going backwards.
When I was a baby my parents taught me how to move forward. When I did
something that I should not do, they told me not to do it. They would tell me
over and over again until I understood that I should not do that thing because
it was not good. It would not help me to move forward if I did it. As I got older,
I began to learn what is right and what is wrong. I learned to follow God and
walk in His footsteps. God does not walk backwards, He is always walking forward
and He wants us to follow Him on this forward path. We have to do what he says
in Philippians 3:14 and we have to press toward the mark for the prize of the
high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
People who do not move forward do things like take drugs, commit crimes
or are very mean to people. These people live life in sadness and despair. They
are never happy and as much as they try, they will never be able to walk forward
and live a good life if they do not stop their bad ways. They are confused. Maybe
they like living in the back and do not want to move to the front. It is sad
when people, especially those you love, or loved somehow find it in their heart
to be cold, distant, or harsh and no longer want to move forward. The best thing
you can do for these people is to encourage them and show them what happens when
you move forward and follow God. Then they can move forward by following your
lead and learn to do it on their own, just like you did when you were a baby.
Sometimes we step backwards. We do things that we should not do and this
takes us backward. We are no longer making progress in life when we go backwards
and do things that take away from moving forward. To make sure I keep doing this,
I set goals. One of my goals is to do well in school . Every year of school is
different from the last year so it is a different type of goal each year. I do
not want to be left behind and repeat a grade because that would be walking backwards.
I pray about it and I keep moving forward. As I learn more in life I keep setting
different goals. Each day I know more than I did before, so I know I have to
keep going forward so I can keep up.
I will always move forward by following God’s way and learning from my parents
and teachers what is the right way to do things. I will learn and play and grow
and be happy. These are the things that help you to move forward and make me
never want to look backwards. Going backward is the wrong thing to do in life
because it means that you are probably doing something that God would not like.
I want to follow God so I must keep moving forward and never backward.

On Thursday, September
20, 2007, our school went on a trip to Hurds Farm in New York.
As soon as we got there, we started picking apples. There were
apples of all kinds. Red Delicious, Golden Apples, Gala Red, |
 |
and
many more! There was a copious amount of fruits and vegetables,
such as corn, pumpkins, berries, and others. In the kids’ Play area there were
a variety of rides. We went on the Hay Ride, which was great fun.
Some of the people on the hay ride picked apples as the wagon drove
by. “You are not allowed to pick the corn up the hill”, the farmer
said as we rode to that section. |
Before you can say “burnt nuggets”, it was time
to go. We didn’t want to leave, but we had to obey our fellow guardians.
This was an unforgettable trip. I look forward to many more!

Ellen G. White Quotations on Education
"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom." "The
tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright." Proverbs 4:7;
15:2. True education imparts this wisdom. It teaches the best
use not only of one but of all our powers and acquirements.
Thus it covers the whole circle of obligation--to ourselves,
to the world, and to God. Character building is the most important
work ever entrusted to human beings; and never before was its
diligent study so important as now…. The character and life
of our Saviour, is the only secure foundation and the only
sure guide.
