Kindergarten Talks About Love

Grade 2
What I am learning in Math class
Right now in class we are learning about the value of money. First Ms. Creighton tells us to take out our math book and then she tells us what page to turn to. She then explains the lesson to us. We use fake money to get a better understanding of how money is used and the value of it. Then we work on our own for a while from our Math book. At the end of the lesson Ms. Creighton checks our work to make sure we understand how money works.

Write what you have learned in Math
In math we are learning about money and it is fun. We use play money to help us. when I use play money it teaches me how to count. Now I know that half-dollar is 50 cents, and that 50 cents + 50 cents make a dollar. I also know that a quarter is 25 cents, a dime is 10 cents, a nickel is 5 cents, and a penny is 1 cent. Learning about money in math will help me to use real money when I grow up.

Grade 3
My sins are made whiter than snow…
Whiter than snow, because Jesus took my sin away, when he died on Calvary for me. Whiter than snow, because God wants me to get away from Satan when I am in his hands. Whiter than snow, because God loves me and He saved me from my sins. Whiter than snow, because I love Him and His blood cleanses my soul. Whiter than snow, because I adore Him and lift His name on high. Whiter than snow, because I worship Him and He is the only one who is Holy and Righteous to me.

A Pilgrim’s Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank you for bringing us from Europe to this foreign land. Thank you for putting your protective hand around us. Some people got sick and some died, but we still trusted you to take care of us. When we disembarked the ship I was afraid strange people would chase us back on the ship. We met the Indians and we quickly made friends.
God please bless the hands that prepared this food in front of us today. We will call this day “Thanksgiving” because we are thanking you for every thing you have done for us so far; in Jesus’ precious and holy name, Amen.

Celebration of our Heritage

On February 27, 2008 the students of Oakview Preparatory School together with Mrs. Allen and the Student Council presented a program to celebrate our ancestors and remind us of our

heritage. All grades participated as they exposed us to the accomplishments and sacrifices made to allow black people to enjoy the freedoms we have today.Pre-k through third grade put together a

heartwarming performance as they sang a beautiful song. First grade did a soul stirring performance as they recited a poem called “I can”. Second grade recited a poem called “My people”, which stole the hearts of many. The third graders said an acrostic honoring black inventors and grade four said a poem called “Midway”. Grade five read essays on the topic “Moving forward backward never”.Grades six through eight, did something that no one else did. The sixth grade class put on a play about Rosa Parks’ brave move to stay seated at the front of the bus when she was told to get up. Seventh grade’s performance was very entertaining as they reminded us of some of the cultural aspect of our rich heritage. The eight graders reminded us that Madame C.J. Walker’s hair care formula was a major discovery that helped black people to better manage their hair.
Through poems, plays, and songs the students of Oakview Preparatory School truly honored the people that gave blacks the freedom they have today.
